The United Nations agencies in Afghanistan and their humanitarian partners suspended all their operations on the border with Iran on Tuesday. This decision was made after the 'Taliban' authorities tightened restrictions on Afghan female employees, preventing them from entering the area to work, a UN representative reported. The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan, Indrika Ratwatte, stated: 'The United Nations and our humanitarian partners suspended operations today (Tuesday) at the Islam Qala border crossing between Afghanistan and Iran following the imposition of additional restrictions that prevent local UN and partner female staff from working at the border'.
