Taliban and Hamas Strengthen Ties in Doha Meeting

The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement that the Taliban's Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, met with prominent Hamas leaders in Doha. The Ministry's spokesperson, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, detailed that the meeting falls within a context of growing diplomatic interest in the region, where Doha has become a key hub for negotiations and dialogues between both groups.

In this regard, the Taliban government has expressed its support for Hamas on several occasions, especially during the conflict in Gaza that intensified in October 2023. This collaboration has strengthened since Hamas was one of the first groups to congratulate the Taliban after the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan in August 2021 and their subsequent return to power.

The meeting in Doha highlights the importance of the relationship between the Taliban and Hamas, who seek to strengthen their cooperation in a complex geopolitical landscape. Meetings in Qatar continue to serve as a key platform for dialogue among regional actors and the articulation of joint strategies in response to current challenges.
