A strong earthquake in northern Afghanistan has resulted in numerous casualties. According to the latest preliminary data from the Ministry of Health, over 20 people have been killed and around 320 injured in the natural disaster that struck the northern provinces of Balkh and Samangan. A spokesperson for the ministry, Sharifat Zaman, stated in a video message shared with journalists that these figures are not final. Earlier reports indicated nine deaths and over 250 injuries. The U.S. Geological Survey measured the earthquake's magnitude at 6.3.
