Experts believe that the Afghan carpet industry can not only bring economic benefits but also create jobs, especially for women, engaged in the textile and carpet production industry across the country.
It is worth noting that Afghan handmade carpets have worldwide recognition, which faded due to neglect and war. The production time for one carpet can take anywhere from four to six months, and it can exceed 10,000 dollars or more.
Industry leaders are calling for additional support for the stimulation of local production and to combat the rising prices of handmade carpets, which weakens the domestic market. After many years of decline, the carpet industry in Afghanistan is once again thriving.
The price of carpets depends on the quality of silk and the precision of the design. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced the presentation of the light and plans for exporting around 3,960 tons of carpets worth more than 15 million dollars.
Carpet producers in Afghanistan have reported a significant increase in exports and production, with about 90% of carpets now going to global markets. Traders associate this with improved government support and reduced customs barriers.
